Philippe Schultz, head of energy and environment planning at Renault SA, France’s second largest carmaker, says that demand for lpg autogas vehicles in Europe may triple within the next five years, and sales of new lpg autogas cars will increase to six per cent of total vehicles sales in the European Union from about two per cent now.
Speaking at the UN climate change conference in December, he said: "There is plenty of lpg and, when you look at the price, it’s cheap. When you look at the price over the past five years, it has been impressively flat and it will likely remain that way.”
Eighty per cent of Renault cars sold in Italy last year were lpg autogas powered, and penetration rates of the fuel in some European markets have reached 15-20 per cent.
