Ford Tri-Fuel has Long RangeFord Tri-Fuel has Long Range

Ford presented a tri-fuel Mondeo at the Leipzig Motor Show in April. The vehicle can be fuelled with a mixture of petrol, bio-ethanol (E85) and lpg autogas. The standard Mondeo with its 2.0 litre Duratec petrol engine is fitted with an additional 48.8 litre tank to supply lpg autogas, while the petrol and bio-ethanol share a 70 litre tank.

The Tri-fuel Mondeo can deliver a driving range of up to 807 miles when all three fuel types are used, lpg autogas contributing 285 miles and a mixture of petrol and bio-ethanol contributing the balance. Ford has said that, with a mixture of petrol and bio-ethanol, the 2.0 litre engine is able to produce 145bhp and, while running on lpg autogas, it can output 141bhp.

Available in saloon, five-door hatchback and estate forms, the Tri-Fuel Ford Mondeo will go on sale in selected European markets from April this year, with prices in Germany starting from 27,500 euros, which means this fuel efficient variant is cheaper by 250 Euros than the diesel-powered Ford Mondeo TDCi with 140bhp.

Ford will also present a bi-fuel petrol/lpg autogas C-Max at the show, with a 2.0 litre 140bhp engine. The 42.5 litre lpg autogas tank has a range of about 280 miles, and the petrol tank around 745 miles. The C-Max will be available later in the year for around 22,600 euros.
