Prins Autogas UK Aspiring to Greener RacingPrins Autogas UK Aspiring to Greener Racing

Prins Autogas UK Ltd has road tested its VSI LPG system on the new Honda Civic Type R car. The company is hoping to enter the lpg autogas-fuelled vehicle in the British Touring Car Championships in 2010.

Will Putter, commercial director for Prins Autogas UK, explained that the reason for converting the Honda to lpg autogas, making it congestion charge exempt, was to give an example of what was possible in years to come – a greener, more economical racing car.

He said: “This Honda helps to show the viability of lpg autogas as a performance option that can make competitive racing greener. It is commonly assumed that performance cars running on lpg autogas don’t perform as well. I want to dispel this myth and show that they can be just as powerful, as well as greener.“

Jon Tanner, Calor sales and marketing director, said: “Calor and Prins Autogas UK work very closely together, because we at Calor have the largest number of lpg autogas fuelling stations across the UK and Prins are the leaders in lpg autogas conversion technology.”

Jon explained the reason for testing the Prins Type R on the track: “We are doing this to promote the fact that the technology we are seeing here today is exactly the same as what we can put into your road car at home.”

Champion racing driver Tom Onslow-Cole praised the performance of the lpg autogas converted Honda when he test drove it at Brands Hatch in September. After having put the car through its paces on the track, Tom said that he thought the VSI system actually helped the performance of the car.

He said: “I really can’t see any difference. The power output is awesome…it’s exactly the same, if not better, than the standard car. I think it’s going to make an awesome race car.” Prins Autogas UK has made a video of Tom’s test drive and his opinions on the car’s performance, which is available on the company’s website at www.prinsautogasuk.co.uk/news.

Will Putter said: “We asked Tom to test drive the vehicle and give his opinions on the performance as we were confident that he would be impressed. His comments prove that Prins is a high end brand that gives the best performance possible, and that lpg autogas is more than viable as a racing fuel.”
