Allaying V10 Concerns ReManufacturing Services Ltd (RMS) has said that some of its customers have expressed concern over meeting the six monthly change schedule recommended in the maintenance instructions for the DeVisser V10 autogas gun.
“The history behind this recommendation is that Holland has a statutory forecourt inspection every six months,” said Peter Roberts of RMS. “DeVisser always change the seal at this time so their whole experience is based on a six month cycle. They therefore list it in their instructions even though, in practice, it may be that seal life could be much longer.
“The front seal material is very resilient but takes the wear and damage that constant connections can inflict. This can be aggravated by damaged or oversize connectors (in which case one connection can cause failure) and other user abuse.”
Peter says that the seals on the V10 can be changed without degassing the system and can take only a few minutes with suitable tools and a trained operator. To encourage frequent changing, RMS, which distributes the seals, sells them more cheaply.
In the UK, an annual inspection is the norm, so the logistical problem of meeting a six-month recommendation can be difficult. To help in assessing the risk, DeVisser advises that the average connections made per gun in a six-month period are approximately 2,750.
“It is reasonable therefore to make the same calculation on UK sites and work out a suitable frequency for changing the front seal on each site subject to normal wear and tear,” said Peter. “It may also be possible to calculate frequency rates against seal failure based on your own site experience, which may be well in excess of the six months recommended.”
