Baxi Boilers Recognise Lpg Gas

Baxi Duo-tec Combi 2011

By Paul Haynes, head of product management, Baxi

Baxi’s latest boiler range uses Gas Adaptive Control to recognise when lpg is being used and set up the boiler to use the fuel automatically.

Traditionally, boiler manufacturers have launched lp gas versions alongside their natural gas models. Great for lpg gas users but, with merchants having to stock more models of varying types, availability has often been a problem for installers.

Adding some intelligent thinking to its product innovation, Baxi’s latest range of high efficiency boilers now automatically recognises the type of fuel being used and sets up the boiler accordingly. For customers not on mains gas, this provides a realistic alternative that is cheaper and cleaner than oil-fired systems.

The solution was developed to take into account a number of external factors over which we have little or no control, but that are likely to affect the performance of lp gas boilers – such as varying quality and pressure of the lpg gas supply to the property.

The technology is called Gas Adaptive Control – GA for short – and is part of Baxi’s THINK combustion management system, with wider modulation ratios allowing the boiler to maintain even temperatures without repeatedly switching on and off. GA boilers continually monitor the flame quality and adjust the gas valve and fan speed so that the boiler works at the optimum setting at all times and maintains its efficiency throughout its lifetime. This lowers fuel consumption and also reduces wear and tear on components, consequently improving overall reliability.

Commissioning is a straightforward process during which the boiler recognises the type and quality of gas and automatically calibrates for optimal efficiency.

Duo-tec high efficiency combination boilers are available in outputs of 24, 28, 33 and 40kW, with an output modulation range of 1:7, giving a minimum output of just 3.4kW (24kW model). The 40kW model has a domestic hot water output of a generous 16.4 litres per minute.

Cupboard-fit Neta-tec high efficiency combination lp gas boilers are also available in outputs of 24, 28 and 33 kW, with domestic hot water flow rates of 9.8 – 13.5 litres per minute. The range features a modulation range of 1:5. High efficiency Megaflo Compact System boilers come in 12, 15, 18, 24, 28 and 32kW output models, with a modulation range of 1:7. Its compact, cupboard fit dimensions and low lift weight make the Baxi Neta-tec Combi GA the perfect choice for homes where space may be limited.

For even greater efficiency, boilers in these ranges are compatible with the Multifit GasSaver, which recycles heat from flue gases to preheat water coming into the lpg boiler from the cold mains supply and can lead to annual fuel savings of up to 37 per cent for water heating. Multifit GasSaver is an Energy Saving Trust Recommended product and rated by Waterwise.

Until the end of March 2012, all GA models are covered by an extended five-year warranty offer simply by registering the boiler on works (works2gether.co.uk), Baxi’s free business support programme.
