Baxi Commercial Division has donated an lp gas-fired condensing boiler and an award-winning lpg gas-fired storage water heater to Rushall Olympic Football Club. The club is a community focused football and social club based in Walsall that was promoted to the Evo-Stik Premier League at the end of last season.
Paul Hardy, managing director of Baxi Commercial Division, said: “Baxi Commercial Division has a long history of supporting local communities and charities up and down the country and Rushall Olympic Football Club is the local team for one of the company’s product managers, who played for the team himself back in the seventies. Still a keen supporter and member of the social club, he was ideally placed to put Rushall Olympic’s refurbishment and extension project forward for company support.
“Coincidentally, the Baxi Commercial Division Training Academy was in the process of being refitted and both the products supplied were about to be replaced, so Rushall Olympic was delighted to offer them a new home.”
A Potterton Commercial 30kW lpg condensing boiler from the Paramount range was installed in the purpose-built boiler room, along with an external sensor for frost protection. The new lp gas boiler serves the refurbished and extended clubhouse, which now comprises a bar accommodating approximately 100 people, a boardroom and a sponsors’ room, as well as changing facilities.
In addition to the first team, Rushall Olympic Football Club has affiliations with junior football teams, girls’ football teams and an over-35 team that use the sporting facilities and the community club. In addition to heating the changing rooms, future plans at Rushall Olympic include further developing the ground to include mini soccer pitches.
The Andrews Water Heaters’ MAXXflo storage water heater is a CWH 120/300 model with a storage capacity of 300 litres and a recovery rate of 2,040 litres/hour through a temperature rise of 50oC. The water heater provides domestic hot water to the refurbished changing rooms, serving 18 shower heads and five wash hand basins, as well as a further seven wash hand basins located within the clubhouse in male, female and disabled toilet facilities.
The changing rooms are built to Blue Square League Standard and include changing facilities for home and away teams, referees and assistant referees. The installation was carried out by British Gas Business, which bore all the associated costs.
John Mallaband of British Gas Business said: “The new Andrews CWH 120/300 MAXXflo condensing model replaces two Andrews water heaters that were over 10 years old, and the new Potterton Commercial lpg boiler we fitted replaces a very old, unserviceable combination boiler. We connected the lp gas boiler to the existing radiator system but upgraded the hot water side to a direct-fired water heater to aid with flow rates. As usual, the products supplied were of high quality and very simple to install and we were proud to be asked to assist with the project.”
A number of ancillary items were also installed, including a new 1¼” lp gas main from the lpg storage vessel and a new 1” blending valve fitted to the shower supply pipework to assist with temperature control, donated by RWC, which supplies Baxi Commercial Division with components. The lpg gas cooker was also reinstated during the refurbishment.
The Paramount range of wall-hung condensing boilers is available in six sizes from 30kW to 115kW. The boilers have premix, fully modulating control, and the aluminium/silicon alloy heat exchanger carries a lifetime guarantee. They deliver energy efficiency levels up to 109 per cent net, as well as low NOx that exceeds Class 5.
Other features include inbuilt weather compensation, summer/winter changeover and time control facilities. The ISR control system can be used with a room thermostat, a remote control panel or a fully integrated building energy management system (BEMS). A new model, the Paramount three, is soon to be introduced incorporating a more advanced integral control system.
Paul Hardy said: “The Andrews MAXXflo range of storage water heaters won the Queen’s Award for Innovation for its energy saving capabilities when it was introduced. Thanks to their fast recovery rate, these units are particularly suitable for installations, such as sports facilities, where demand peaks at particular times of day. This, together with their innovative design, carbon footprint and low NOx levels, means running costs are kept to a minimum.”
