The Comet cast iron boiling ring range brought outdoor cooking to lpg users from the 1970s onwards. The solid cast iron burners were made popular by their rugged design, suitable for outdoor and onsite catering requirements, which suited lp gas as a portable fuel.
They remain popular to this day, and are still made by the same family business in Italy. The Cesaretto family has been involved in lpg gas appliance manufacture since the mid 1950s. The original Comet brand changed to NovaComet and finally to Foker in 1974. The NovaComet brand remained with the family and is used for lpg regulators, until finally it was bought by Clesse Industries in 1991.
Both factories are still neighbours in the small northern Italian town of Torbole, and Clesse UK Ltd has been the exclusive UK and Ireland distributor for Foker for over 10 years. Alan Cox, operations manager at Clesse, said: “The cast iron product produced by Foker today is much the same as it was then, a robust quality product and fully European CE certificated. Which is reassuring for a new generation of customers, be it Guides or Cub Scouts, and a new breed of outdoor survival experts, with the odd celebrity chef thrown in for good measure.
“With over 30 models, Foker produces the most extensive range, most of which now have the option of safety flame supervision, branding on the cast iron and full colour merchandise boxes, which clearly identify the product as being genuine Foker and produced by the Cesaretto family.”
The newest Foker models include the FK3200W with a new triple ring industrial wok burner. The curved pan support allows both flat and round bottom pans to sit safely on the appliance. The high capacity burners give 9.2kW of heat, resulting in a rapid stir-fry using a safe, low gas pressure.
Alan said: “By having leading European manufacturers, such as Clesse, NovaComet and Foker, served by the Comap subsidiary in the UK, customers can be assured they will receive both excellent service and quality. There are increasingly many imitations on the market, some now purporting to be Comet or NovaComet items, often to the customer’s dissatisfaction.
“To ensure they get the genuine Foker cast iron stove, customers can call us for their local authorised retailer/distributor and information on how to identify the original product.”
