Heading for Good Times In lpg and autogas industry

John Waghorn, sales director of Nicholson McLaren Engines (NME) and chairman of the UKLPG Autogas Installers Committee believes that there are great times ahead for the lpg and autogas industry thanks to the current high prices for both petrol and diesel fuels, and the new publicity for lpg that has been generated in the media.

“Three months ago, the autogas industry was complaining that lpg was not receiving any publicity, fleet operators had all but written lpg off as an option to power their vehicles, and many installers were scratching around for work, with only servicing to fill their day,” he said. “How things have changed. Fleet operators have woken up and Nicholson McLaren are being asked for many quotes daily. Approved installers, such as Hilton Autogas, are reporting that their business is booming and that they now have a lead-time of many weeks.”

The upturn in business has given the autogas industry the confidence to take its own stand at this year’s British International Motor Show, taking place at the ExCel centre from July 23-August 3, and Citroen UK will be announcing NME lpg options for the new Citroen Nemo van and Berlingo First van.

NME has been in the autogas industry since 1998 and, since then, has focused on building a national installer and service network, and on developing vehicle specific systems for new vehicles with direct marketing to the fleet market and vehicle manufacturers.

The product range available from NME includes the new TeleflexGFI Ez Sgi system, Necam parts for servicing OEM Vauxhall, Ford and Volvo vehicles, and the recently introduced range from Eurogas Autogas Systems.

“NME have worked hard to develop their relationships with new vehicle manufactures and are therefore proud to be the suppliers to Cadillac for their new SRX, Escalade and CTS models; Citroen UK, as the only lpg supplier listed on their Ready To Run Program; Lee Bridge Suzuki for the new Suzuki Swift 1.5 Auto, and suppliers of Ford Transit and other new petrol cars and vans from Renault, Peugeot and Volvo,” said John.
