Calor Gas Ltd has been fined more than £27,000 for breaching health and safety regulations after a major leak at the company’s terminal on Canvey Island saw the release of 163 tonnes of lpg in 2008.

A Health & Safety Executive (HSE) investigation found that Calor Gas had failed to provide effective measures to prevent the leak and did not respond properly to the emergency. A leak detection sensor failed and emergency alarms onsite were not sounded after the leak was found.
