Lp Gas Barbecuing Pleasure Whatever the Weather

OMC brand Broil King reports major sales growth of its lpg barbecues this year as UK consumers enjoy outdoor entertaining. Mike Francis, OMC’s UK general sales manager, tells us why.

Broil King is the major barbecue brand of the Onward Manufacturing Company Ltd (OMC), a Canadian family owned company established in 1906. As a leading manufacturer and distributor of quality lpg gas barbecue products in over 30 countries, OMC has built an enviable reputation for quality, durability and cooking performance. It’s UK operation, based in Neston, Cheshire, has been running for over 10 years, distributing through Calor Gas showrooms and a network of outdoor leisure independents.

In 2010, OMC has seen a significant rise even on the record sales of 2009. Our sales performance this year was boosted by the great weather before the May Bank Holidays, which is traditionally the start of the barbecue season. The football World Cup also contributed but, overall, UK consumers are discovering how easy it is to cook with lpg models, particularly Broil King, as they are so versatile, offering direct or convection oven cooking.

We find our independent retailers take the time to explain all the features of our models so customers understand the full range of possibilities beyond flipping sausages and burgers – that you can roast a chicken, cook a pizza or even bake a cake with one of our models. They are also assured of our great quality, being built in North America and not China, and our warranties range from two to five years on our stainless steel burners and limited lifetime on our die-cast aluminium ovens.

We also back this up with excellent after sales service and we’re committed to ensuring the availability of genuine replacement parts for many years to come. Overall, Broil King lp gas barbecues deliver great results, making barbecuing a pleasure whatever the weather. Broil King lpg gas models range from under £200 to £2,000. On the larger models, the cabinets provide ample room to store a 13kg propane cylinder and their trademark Sure-Lite ignition system offers peace of mind for lighting the barbecue regardless of weather conditions.

Broil King’s flagship model is the impressive Imperial XL, which features six stainless Dual-Tube steel burners and a massive cooking surface. This provides the flexibility of precise heat control, with two separate ovens allowing cooking at different temperatures at the same time. This model has it all, whether entertaining two people or twenty-two.

Slightly smaller in size but equally impressive are the Regal, Sovereign and Signet models. With the Monarch, the exceptional quality remains the same, which is what sets this series apart from its rival brands. It features a rustproof cast aluminium oven, the unbeatable 11.4kW Super 8 Infinity Dual Burner and durable stainless steel components, making this a dependable barbecue with great value for all to enjoy.

Two of Broil King’s best sellers, the Gem and Gem Super, although smaller, are built to the same rigorous standards. They’re loaded with quality features not normally found with other entry-level models. The Gems are perfect for smaller families and tight spaces without sacrificing cooking efficiency. Features include an 8.8kW stainless steel dual burner and a trivet side burner on the Gem Super.

There are two portable barbecues in the range – the Porta-Chef and the newly launched Porta-Chef Pro. Cooking on the go has never been more convenient than with these two models, which are probably the most powerful portable barbecues available. The sturdy legs quickly snap into place, providing a stable standalone barbecue with enough cooking surface to cater for the whole family. Features include a stainless steel 4.7kW burner, the Flav-R-Wave cooking system, porcelain-coated cast iron cooking grid on the Porta-Chef Pro and a retractable warming rack.

OMC undertook a UK public relations campaign this year that included sponsorship of the Rugby Sevens Tournament at Twickenham in May and a broadcast campaign featuring England player Nick Easter. A barbecuing enthusiast himself, Nick was amused by results of a consumer survey by Broil King highlighting men’s fascination with outdoor cooking and their overall confidence when equipped with a high quality lpg barbecue. Outdoor cooking becomes a pleasure not a chore, particularly when linked to sports events and entertaining friends, and perhaps this, combined with some sunshine and a Broil King barbecue, is the key to further growth in the UK.
