Lpg Autogas in Mint Condition

Autogas Worldwide Ltd changed its name to mintLPG in May this year.

Founder and technical director Edward Davies, who has 15 years’ experience in the lpg industry, said: “With petrol prices rising and concerns about climate change, our mission to promote the environmental and economic benefits of lpg autogas and running a dual fuel vehicle is becoming increasingly relevant. We are full members of UKLPG, which provides a guarantee that all of our technicians are fully UKLPG certified, and we also sit on UKLPG’s management board and technical subgroup.”

Based near Newport in Wales, mintLPG is the exclusive stockist of lpg autogas conversion equipment brands, such as Romano, Ultra-Gas, mintXI and AEB, and stocks a range of components.

Edward said: “We have always worked hard to develop strong relationships with our suppliers to the extent that we have been able to co-develop both mechanical and electrical components aimed at UK driving conditions and vehicles.”

Edward and his team of four fitters are qualified to install a range of lpg autogas conversion systems. Ultra-Gas’ Classic system is recommended for vehicles over five years old where budget is a consideration, and mintXI’s Ultimate system uses similar mechanical components as the Classic, but its single injectors allow more accurate fuel control and its electronic control unit (ECU) is more sophisticated. There are three driving modes – economic, normal and sport – and the system is suitable for the majority of vehicles.

The Romano Premium system is suitable for new, high mileage or high performance vehicles. The ECU, manufactured by AEB, is probably the most widely used in the industry. Edward said: “Safety is always paramount when installing lpg autogas systems. Particular consideration is paid to making sure all installations comply with the UKLPG Code of Practice 11 (CoP11). This, together with attention to detail during the fitting of all components, ensures that the lpg autogas conversion enables the vehicle to perform as well as on petrol, if not better.”

mintLPG also provides a training course for people keen to develop their own lpg autogas installation business.

Edward said: “The course covers all aspects of lpg autogas installation, and participants are trained by mintLPG’s engineers. The course theory covers lp gas’ structure, elements and behaviour; vehicle system developments and latest technology; lp gas safety and general health and safety in the workshop, CoP11 and BS Autogas Installations.

“High quality components imported by mintLPG are used, but the course is generic and centred on industry standards laid down in CoP11. The first day concentrates on theory, and the following three days are spent in the workshop fitting the lpg autogas system and components under expert guidance.”

Once the vehicle installation is complete, tested and calibrated, participants sit a written multiple-choice examination and, if successful, are awarded a Certificate of Competence in lpg autogas conversions, which enables them to carry out installations and is the first step to becoming a UKLPG Approved Installer.

Edward added: “Completion of this course is only the beginning; we provide ongoing technical help and support. Many of the people we have trained choose to do their next lpg autogas conversion at our workshop so that they can benefit further from our expertise and vehicle knowledge.

“All of our customers are also welcome to bring any vehicles to us that are presenting problems and that they need further diagnosis and remedial assistance with.”
