TPA Issues Statement on US Recall

Following the recall in the USA of a product manufactured by TPA Metals – Shenzhen, the company has issued the following statement:

"Coleman has announced the recall of its PBG gas grills, stating that it is due to the TPA regulator on the product. This was reported to TPA in June of this year, when Coleman advised that it had received consumer complaints of leakage.

"The suspected area of leakage was from the seal part inside the body. After two months’ investigation and testing carried out by a third party national laboratory, we have found that the rubber parts are not the problem.

"An unknown grease has been found within the regulator body and this grease has been analysed at the Shanghai University laboratory, where it was found to contain ketone and ester, which is not used anywhere within the manufacture of TPA regulators nor is it used anywhere within the TPA factories.

"We are still talking with Coleman to discover how these chemicals could get inside of the regulator. For legal reasons, Coleman USA announced its recall.

"We, TPA, do not see this as the fault of our product and we are investigating to establish where the responsibility does lie. In the meantime, we have agreed to the recall of these specific products, as safety is always our priority.

"As a branch of Coleman USA, Coleman Australia also announced a recall at the insistence of its mother company. Coleman Australia has not found a single instance of leakage from the products in its marketplace – which is why we feel that this is solely a US problem.

"The recalled product is very different to any that are sold in the United Kingdom or Europe. The outer shape and internal design and construction are totally different. This recall has no bearing whatsoever on the European market.”
