For the past three years, with the support of the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC), ROUSH Performance has been engineering and selling lpg autogas powered vehicles for fleet use in the USA.

Currently available from the company is an lpg autogas powered Ford F-150 truck and, later this year, a medium-duty lpg autogas powered F-250 will also be in production. Development is underway for an lpg autogas-powered E-250 van that will be available in the summer of 2010.

Even with a modest sales volume of between 5,000 and 10,000 vehicles per year on this product mix, ROUSH expects to create an additional 78 jobs in assembly, quality assurance, engineering, programme management, purchasing, inventory, customer service, inside and outside sales and marketing. If sales volumes grow to exceed 15,000 units annually, ROUSH anticipates it will add 158 jobs.

“We never stop thinking about the future at ROUSH,” said Jack Roush, chairman of ROUSH Enterprises Inc and co-owner/CEO of Roush Fenway Racing. “With our corporate resources, we have the capability to create new products that should help stimulate the American economy as well as reduce our need for foreign oil. We are looking forward to working with the state and local governments to help grow the job base and support our Michigan economy.”

The USA produces 90 per cent of its lpg demand domestically, and a variety of federal, state and municipal tax credits or rebates are available for the purchase of lpg autogas vehicles.
