The main concern for lpg distributors today is strong competition leading to price reductions. In order to reduce costs to stay competitive, distributors must optimise the logistics of their lpg gas supply chain.
Lp gas distributors already have tools to plan their deliveries, but often lack a key piece of information to optimise them – a reliable ‘live’ measurement of the level of each of their customers’ lp gas tanks. By knowing the exact amount of lpg left in each tank, lpg gas distributors can decide exactly when and how much to deliver, and so can easily plan deliveries in a cost effective manner.
The most efficient way to get such measurements is to install a remote tank monitoring system – which Sensile Technologies has offered for many years. Sensile’s SENTS solution includes a battery powered telemetry system on each lpg vessel and level measurements are sent regularly via a GSM network to a central server, which automatically processes the data. Customers view, analyse and export lp gas vessel level data via the internet, using the user friendly Oillink web portal.
In Sensile Technologies’ vision, lpg gas should be like water or electricity – available simply by opening the tap or flicking on the switch. Sharing this vision, and realising that machines can be more efficient than human systems, most of Sensile Technologies’ large customers now automatically import lpg vessel level data into their planning systems to automatically generate delivery planning.
The benefits are enormous. Feedback from lp gas merchants indicates that deliveries can be reduced by at least 20 per cent with the SENTS solution. A positive return on investment can be achieved in less than one year for any system installed on a vessel receiving more than five deliveries per year.
Not only does the drop size increase, but also lpg gas customers are more satisfied – not one tank equipped with a telemetry system has ever run out of lpg. The system lowers transport costs even further as emergency deliveries are no longer required. The number of overfill incidents is also greatly reduced as the drop size is known.
Such logistics optimisation not only saves money, but also greatly reduces CO2 emissions and so contributes to efforts to prevent global warming. Sensile Technologies has calculated that the 25,000 vessels monitored with its SENTS solution translate to 2.2 million fewer kilometres travelled by delivery trucks each year. This reduces their carbon footprint by an estimated 2,200 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year – or more than 6 tonnes per day (which is about the yearly emissions of an individual in Switzerland).
Over the past decade, Sensile Technologies has gathered considerable experience in implementing remote lp gas vessel monitoring solutions worldwide. The Swiss company currently monitors over 25,000 tanks in more than 36 countries across Europe, Africa, Asia and South America.
On top of this, Sensile Technologies is recognised as a very innovative company. Indeed, Sensile Technologies’ team of engineers has launched three world premieres in the M2M business over the last six years.
NETRIS, the latest telemetry system, is the outcome of 10 years of experience, combined with Sensile Technologies’ core values of constant innovation, clear vision, market research and craving for perfection. NETRIS features an operational life of up to 10 years, an innovative and registered design that makes it even easier to install on all types of lpg vessels, and the ability to connect to other units via a radio frequency (RF) link.
Coupled with the user-friendly Oillink web portal, NETRIS provides highly reliable monitoring of all kinds of vessels. Customer feedback has already been overwhelmingly positive.
From pilot phases to management of large projects, Sensile Technologies and its large network of distributors can assist lp gas merchants in optimising their logistics. The company’s extensive experience, together with the reliability of its SENTS solution, makes Sensile Technologies the ideal partner.
