Hyster’s range spans 1.6 to 16 tonne lift capacities.Hyster Offering Lpg Advantages

In 2007, Hyster announced the introduction of a new generation of 8–16 tonne forklifts available with lpg powered engines. With Hyster’s range of lpg trucks now spanning 1.6 to 16 tonne capacities, what benefits do forklift users receive from Hyster?

Lpg power is preferred in a number of industries because, for some applications, the fuel offers numerous benefits over trucks powered by other energy sources. It is a clean burning fuel with low emissions (thanks to the fitting of a catalytic converter), making it suitable for operations with both indoor and outdoor handling requirements. In addition, lpg offers benefits, such as consistent performance, quiet operation, reduced down time and cost savings. Hyster’s current lpg range spans 1.6 to 16 tonne lift capacities.

Fortens

The Hyster Fortens range has been designed to offer dependability, productivity and low cost of ownership for applications requiring up to 7 tonne lift capacities. The Fortens brings advantages to industries, such as paper, manufacturing, bottling or construction, where the trucks can be configured to maximise performance according to the application.
All the electrical systems on the Fortens range are managed by a dedicated onboard computer system, the Pacesetter™ VSM (Vehicle Systems Manager), which increases overall reliability. Devised and developed by Hyster, the system uses a CANbus communications network, enabling truck performance to be customised through the dash display to suit individual application needs, optimising productivity and reducing the stress placed on the truck in arduous applications. The VSM also enhances diagnostic capabilities for maximum uptime.

Hyster’s DuraMatchTM transmission lessens wear and damage to reduce costly downtime and expensive repairs, as well as minimising operator fatigue. Key features include the programmable Auto-Deceleration System (ADS) and Controlled Power Reversal (CPR), which allows even the most aggressive direction changes to be smooth, reducing tyre wear and adding to driver comfort.

For high capacity, high productivity indoor applications, as an alternative, or to overcome the unsuitability of electric counterbalance trucks, Hyster has taken advantage of the modular design of the Fortens range to create its short-wheelbase S-Series.

This range offers the equivalent handling and performance characteristics of its H-Series pneumatic tyres range, but uses a shorter chassis for each capacity model and cushion tyres, and is available with lpg power to suit indoor operating environments, where the available handling space is restricted but heavy duty loads need to be moved.

The service access of the lpg Fortens Range is maintained across the series, plus a simplified layout of wiring and hydraulics. This offers easier and faster access to components, which in turn decreases service time for unscheduled repairs and regular maintenance. Advanced diagnostics accessed via the dash display, laptop or PDA also help to reduce maintenance requirements and unscheduled repairs.

For refuelling, the Fortens range has brackets that lower cylinders to a safe height for easier loading, helping to reduce manual handling issues.

8–16 tonne LPG Forklift

For heavier applications, Hyster introduced its latest 8–16 tonne capacity range in 2007. Designed for outstanding performance and productivity in the toughest environments, the H8.00-16.00XM-6 features a larger Cummins 6B-LPG-Plus engine, with a performance of 155 Hp/116 kW at 2,300 rpm.

The range suits customers who require the ability to move heavy-duty materials in and out of a warehouse environment with low exhaust emissions. It also suits customers with a fleet of smaller lpg forklifts who require higher capacity trucks with the same fuel type, and can therefore avoid operating with two different fuel sources to better manage their operating costs.

The H8.00-16.00XM-6 offers a number of standard features to help the customer to effectively manage truck operating costs. The models benefit from oil-immersed ‘wet discs’ brakes and a durable driveline, with a robust drive axle and advanced auto-shift transmission system, with engine and transmission protection systems as standard. An engine shutdown function is also included and, to minimise service time and cost, the cab features a powered tilt facility so the clean running engine has service access at all times.

The focus is also on driver comfort, ergonomics and all round visibility with the Hyster Vista operator compartment positioned in a ‘mid-high’ and forward position for optimal visibility on the forks. Hyster has included standard ergonomic features that are designed to achieve maximum productivity from the operator in every shift.
