Rinnai Lpg Infinity Helps Cure Otira Viaduct ConcreteRinnai Lpg Infinity Helps Cure Otira Viaduct Concrete

Cold temperatures, heavy rain and snow can often present problems in major construction projects. Adverse weather conditions in the mountainous area of New Zealand’s South Island, where the Otira Viaduct was built, meant that the cold water and ambient temperatures caused the concrete to cure too slowly and with reduced strength.

When concrete cures, the cement particles absorb water and react with the other components to bond them together, eventually creating a stone-like material but, in cold weather, the water can freeze before the hydration occurs, meaning the cement is weaker when it sets.

Rinnai Infinity lpg powered flueless continuous flow hot water units were installed onsite to supply hot water for the concrete plant. The hot water ensures that the concrete cures even in the coldest conditions.
