Callow Gas Expands Lpg Gas Delivery Fleet

Callow Gas, an independent lp gas distributor based in Worcestershire, has added a Volvo FL240 lpg tanker to its 45 vehicle fleet.

The 240hp, 18-tonne tanker features a day cab and nine speed manual gearbox. Callow Gas has also ordered two further Volvo vehicles from Hartshorne Motor Services. “We used to run Volvos pretty much exclusively,” said director James Callow. “Price competition sent us to other makes for a while, but now the cost is once more at a level that makes sense for us.”

Cost has been a significant factor in the tank specification too - the 17,000-litre barrel is a remount supplied by Lakeland Tankers, which has also provided a digital gas meter, in-cab thermal printer and full ADR kit.

Callow Gas already has experience of Volvo FL6s. “Historically, those Volvos don’t owe us much,” said James. “We’d reckon on a service life of 10 to 12 years, and they were like pocket battleships; they’d run all over our territory with rarely a spanner put on them.”

The FLH240 is under a five-year contract with Volvo dealership Hartshorne’s depot at Pensnett, whose ability to provide a dedicated ADR bay was another factor in Callow Gas’ decision to choose Volvo.
